Henry is a fast, clean show jumper who with previous owners competed up to 1.20m with placings (including at Nationals) but was most competitive up to 1.10m (loads of placings at ESNZ events at 1m-1.10m over several years). He's a big horse with a massive stride but can turn on a dime. Soft mouth, always ridden in a rubber snaffle.
For the past two years Henry has been competing 70-90cm with me, who bought Henry as an adult learner (2 years of lessons). I have learned the ropes of competing on him and we won the Ring 3 Hack High Points prize at Otago ESNZ SJ in October 2022, among many other placings.
With the right rider Henry could easily get back to competing 1-1.10m and possibly higher, but would be equally happy to cruise around lower heights or do more non-SJ activities.
Henry is very well educated on the flat. Successfully competed in Level 1 dressage, schooling Level 2/3. Entered in 1D & 2B at Dressage Southland January Tournament.
He's also quite handy at working equitation obstacles. Has competed successfully in Prep level WE after only a couple of practices and has the potential to move up to Prelim or even Novice WE with more focus on this.
Enjoys hacking around farms, sand dunes, etc. Good with traffic but we don't do much road riding because our area is not suitable for this. Good to ride in open spaces, not a spooky type.
Good to catch, float, truck, etc. Usually good on the ground, never nasty, but not suited to beginners or nervous nellies due to his large size.
Dunedin. Videos & full competition results history available - contact me for details.
