Liquorice is just a pleasure to ride as he is so keen to learn. He’s green in the sense that steering into jumps can be a bit wobbly and contact isn’t fully consistent but he carries himself beautifully when you ask him too. He’s soft in your hands, moves off your leg and shaping up beautifully underneath you.
Licky has only just started jumping but he’s been honest and kind. Happy to have a go and once he gets a bit more forward there’s a really awesome jump in there. I think he’s one of those elusive alrounder and will be easy to produce to a high standard whilst having a best buddy.
He is great to hack out, cows running up to you and dogs under his feet he’s fine. Good out front or behind. Only farm ridden and on quiet roads and has been great. He is only wary of humans. Life - he’s confident as anything and a real dude. When mounting, he’s still a little looky but I just lay over them pop up and he’s great. He’s never done anything under saddle.
Liquorice has come to me to be produced further and find his new home. He has been here a month and a bit and for the first three weeks we worked a lot on ground work. Licky is wary of humans and takes a while to warm up to you. He loves food and still calls out to you but when you get up close he can second guess if he wants to be in your space. Taking my time, he’s really come out of his shell and likes to be in your space more. I trust this will fully resolve when he’s given the love he deserves. This would be his only quirk because otherwise, I cannot fault him other than being green.
We have placed him fairly in hopes we find that patient person for him on the ground that will then reap the rewards of a top pony. I see him thriving in a working hunter / show hunter home or equally being a grey eventer or Showjumper. He moves well and would be a pony in the HOY titles. He is going on outings next week and with this he will increase.
But really, he will love just about anything he gets to do with his person. He’s loved adventuring with me and reminds me a lot of a lot of my own horses. He’s a special boy and if I was 16 I wouldn’t let him leave as I adore him.
