🌟 Pinto Mare – Arya 🌟
Sire: Token Romance (by Pintado Desperado - jumping lines)
Dam: Holly (QHxArab crossbred mare by Pelorus Zahav Kamara aka Herbie and out of Tosca)
Looking for a brave, talented, and versatile partner? Arya is a 4.5-year-old, 15hh, athletic pinto mare with a solid horsemanship foundation, a great mind, and POTENTIAL!
Arya is a fit young horse who hasn’t missed any steps in her early education and has a bright future ahead. Arya was started under saddle in late spring 2024, after receiving a thorough groundwork foundation. Since then, we’ve exposed her to a variety of environments and also given her little breaks in between training blocks to process what she’s learned. She’s a beautifully put-together mare and always catches people’s eye, but more importantly, she’s smart, curious, and keen to learn.
Credit to Karen Schafer, who bred and raised her, giving her a great start to life and by choosing a great sire and dam, both known for their great temperament and athleticism (jumping lines).
✅ Professional Start & Quality Training
Arya has great ground manners and has received quality handling. She’s been trained with softness, clear communication, and trust as key principles. She’s light, responsive, and listens well to your seat, intention, and cues. Soft snaffle mouth. She has plenty of life and a great walk but is always respectful and can be ridden on a loose rein. She adjusts easily to her rider’s energy—moving forward when asked but coming back down just as easily. She’s done a variety of exercises on the ground and under saddle, including:
* United circles, small serpentines, and weaving at the trot
* Changing eyes exercises
* Bending/flexing, engaging the hindquarters
* Backing up with a soft feel, backs circles on the ground
* Separating the hindquarters from the front and starting to learn a little turnaround
* Roping front and hind feet
* Used to flags, ropes, tarps, and you can throw a lasso off her and drag a log
* Picks you up from a fence, bank, or mounting block and parks you again after the ride
✅ Proven in Many Environments
Arya has been ridden in the round pen and the arena as well as on farms and stations, through forests, bush-bashed on rugged trails, on roads, across rocky riverbeds, up and down hills, and through rivers and creeks. She recently spent a month with us and three other horses on a backcountry expedition, where we spent 24/7 with them. I have also led a packhorse off her in the backcountry, where she proved to be a great role model. She’s great with vehicles, motorbikes, and bicycles, and used to stock as well as wild pigs.
✅ Outstanding Nature & Brave Attitude
Arya is incredibly mature for her age and not much fazes her. She has a chilled, no-fuss mind, making her a reliable and fun partner. She’s not herd-bound or prone to separation anxiety and will ride out alone. She’s genuine, honest, and has no rear, buck, or bolt. Even after some time off, she’s very easy to bring back into work.
✅ Well-Handled and Looked-After & Easy to Manage
* Ties well, stands still for grooming, tacking up, and mounting
* Good for the farrier (trimmed regularly, has good hooves, has been hot shod once for backcountry terrain (and did great) but has mostly been kept barefoot and goes well in hoof boots)
* Great to worm, brush, cover, and bathe
* Tethers, hobbles, and high-lines * Floats well and travels easily (alone or with others; was trucked in the past and did well)
* Good with other horses
* Gets regular minerals and hard feed
* Good teeth, done by Julian from Keelah Vets in mid 2024
* 6-panel negative, healthy, sound, and well put together; vet check welcome
✅ Versatile
Arya has been ridden in both Western and English saddles. She’s not specifically trained in either discipline, but her solid horsemanship foundation makes her incredibly versatile and opens the door to a variety of disciplines. I believe she’ll enjoy jumping, endurance, trail riding/trekking, cross country, western disciplines, working equitation, cowboy challenge, stock work and more! While she hasn’t jumped under saddle yet due to her age, she is now ready to begin. She has popped over a few jumps in-hand, enjoyed it, and showed willingness.
🏡 Her ideal home would be where she gets variety, keeps developing her skills and softness, and gets out and about. She’s suited for an intermediate to experienced rider with soft hands who understands young horses and knows when and how to give them a release. She would make a great horse for anyone looking for a talented and fun partner.
🔥 Arya is a quality mare with a fantastic mind, a great “let’s do it” attitude, and serious potential for competition and adventure.
🌟 Whoever gets this mare is extremely lucky – she’s truly one of a kind. 🌟
